How this all started!

Peter Weinberg

I am a retired strategy consultant blessed with a two-year-old (at time of writing) grandson Leo. One of my retirement activities has been to learn the piano, a labor accompanied more by love than skill. One day, I was playing around on my keyboard and started to hum the notes to myself. The rest is history. I wrote the score to the notes I was playing, added some lyrics, and the first song “Off to School” was born.

I have since created over two dozen songs for children in the one to six ages range and will continue to write more as the year progresses. But the songs are all dedicated to one small person: Leo Albert Weinberg.

I have a strong belief that children’s experiences should be both enjoyable and educational. For this reason, I have adopted a four-element format for all of my kids songs:

  • The lyrics, with a bouncing ball indicating the words being sung
  • A video image of the activity taking place
  • The musical score of the line being played, with a moving finger showing the name of the note being played
  • A cartoon mini-piano, with a moving finger showing the piano key being pressed for a particular note

In this way, I hope that children will not only derive great pleasure from singing along with the songs but will also acquire some insight into reading music and playing the piano.

I live in Chicago with my wife Ellyn, whose support, patience and forbearance have, in no small way, contributed to the creation of Fiddlestix.
